Who Are Technical Topics Training?
So who are technical topics? Their people
are behind the technical training offered by
some of the biggest names in the industry.
Technical topics staff have developed and/or
delivered training on behalf of the AA, RAC,
Snap-on, Omitec, Techotest, Crypton, Rover,
Ford, Saab and Vauxhall.
High Quality Training
The Saturday training days are hosted in
purpose built training facilities and offer
state of the art training resources. A
comfortable learning environment ensures
that technicians learn and retain a large
proportion of what they are taught. Much of
the course is conducted in the workshop and
hands-on practice is key element of the
training. Quality of training is guaranteed
with course places being strictly limited.
All technical topics instructors are
accredited by the IMI holding either Master
or Diagnostic technician certificates, or
industry standard training qualifications.

Common
Rail Diesel Diagnostics -
Course Details
Common Rail Diesel systems are now
fitted by all of the major motor manufacturers. This course is aimed at
enabling you to be confident in quickly and accurately diagnosing faults in
the common rail diesel system. This course will take participants through
the diesel and electrical sub-systems which together make up the electronic
diesel control system.
Course Objective: By the end of this course participants will be able
to use a variety of diagnostic tools to quickly and accurately diagnose
faults on common rail diesel systems. You will have a detailed understanding
of high and low pressure systems, sensors, actuators and diesel engine
control strategies.
Who Should Attend: Workshop technicians who are, or would like to be involved with
diesel vehicle
diagnostics. To gain maximum benefit form this course attendees should have
an understanding of basic
electrical/electronic principles and ideally have attended an ENGINE
MANAGEMENT TRAINING COURSE. You will probably will have been using a scan
tool, a multi meter and a fuel pressure gauge to make automotive system
tests.
The course covers:
Advances in diesel injection.
Health, Safety and Environment.
The high and low pressure circuits.
Phases of injection.
Sensors and Actuators.
An effective diagnostic process.
Typical faults and how to diagnose them.
Analysing serial data stream.
Common rail diesel and the oscilloscope.

Oscilloscope_Diagnostics - Course
Details
You may realise that to be able
perform quick accurate diagnostics, you need more than a scan tool and a
multi-meter. Come on this course and use a variety of scopes, or bring your
own along and you can use it during the practical sessions.
This course takes technicians through the effective use and interpretation of oscilloscope
waveforms.
Course Objective: By the end of this course you will be able to use an
oscilloscope to perform quick accurate diagnosis of complex electronic
systems, understand where and how to best measure signals with the
oscilloscope and how recognise the difference between good and poor
oscilloscope patterns.
Who Should Attend: Workshop technicians who are involved with vehicle
diagnostics. To gain maximum benefit form this course attendees should have
an understanding of sensor and actuator operation and knowledge of basic
electrical/electronic principles.
This is a intermediate level course.
The course covers:
How best to set-up an oscilloscope in order to measure system voltages
Interpret simple and complex waveforms
Setting triggers, using cursors and recording waveform 'movies'
Diagnosing common sensor and actuator faults
Analysing Component Relationships
Performing effective ignition analysis
Current Ramping (fuel pumps, ignition coils and injectors)
We encourage course participants to bring along their own hand held
scopes so that you can learn on the equipment you will use when you return to work.
